Heat, Thunder and The Monsoon

Thunder and lightning, Heat and heavy rainfall, oh my what is all of this? Today has been a very active wx day in California with heat in both NorCal and SoCal and some t-storms forming in the LA and San Diego areas as well. With a few places recording, unofficially 0.55" this has been quite the monsoon event. While the activity is heading northward now towards the Antelope Valley, where temps have fallen from the 100's to near 70F right now as the rainfall has arrived. Look for the activity to wind down as we head into the evening hours due to the lack of surface heating once the sun goes down. In terms of temps, it's been a hot day all over California with Sacramento at 102F today and Red Bluff at 108F. In SoCal, Temecula had a high of 101F today and many of the desert sites where in the 115-120F range. Tomorrow should bring on more heat as well with even warmer temps for NorCal. We should see Sacramento approach 110F and Redding/Red Bluff exceed it. Napa area today saw 94F and tomorrow should be near 100F. We may even go above 100F in this heat wave as well. The hottest spots in California tomorrow will be the deserts where some spots will be near 125F( Furnace Creek). Will the monsoon return tomorrow though, chances are yes, but not as widespread as today. I'll have an update tomorrow.
